East Grand Forks, Minnesota, established in 1887, is a city in Polk County located in northwestern Minnesota along the eastern bank of the Red River of the North, which was formed when glacial Lake Agassiz receded. Bordering Grand Forks, North Dakota, the city sits at the intersection of U.S. Highway 2 and Minnesota Highway 220. It is near the University of North Dakota and Northland Community and Technical College. As of the 2020 Census, East Grand Forks has a population of approximately 9,176 residents.

The city boasts a charming downtown area featuring a variety of shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues. The Riverwalk Centre is a popular destination, offering a mix of retail and dining options with scenic views of the Red River.

Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy the Red River State Recreation Area, which provides opportunities for camping, fishing, and access to extensive trails for biking and walking. Sherlock Park, affectionately known as "Castle Park" by locals, is a favorite spot for families, featuring a unique playground structure resembling a castle.

The community is known for its strong sense of connectedness and hosts several annual events that bring residents together. Heritage Days celebrates the city's history and growth, while the East Grand Forks Arts and Craft Vendor Show showcases regional artists and makers. Happy Harry’s Rockin’ Up North Fest is another highlight, featuring concerts and beer tasting. The city also hosts a widely popular event surrounding Catfishing in July which culminated in a the Cats Incredible Catfishing Tournament.

The district is organized into four schools: New Heights, which is a kindergarten through second grade school: South Point, which is a third grade through fifth grade school; Central Middle School which houses the sixth through eighth grades, and the Senior High School for grades nine thorough twelve.

At the elementary level, the East Grand Forks School District has made every effort to maintain effective class sizes for optimal learning. Kindergarten students participate in a full day, every day program. All students participate in physical education music, and computer literacy programs taught by licensed specialists.

Central Middle School emphasizes the development of the whole child and includes a wide variety of exploratory experiences to develop mature interest, academic capabilities and athletic skills. The middle school curriculum features the highly recognized Red River of the North program for the past, present and future.

The Senior High School offers a comprehensive curriculum, which includes instruction in two foreign languages, a host of vocational classes, Career Academy, Project Lead the Way and several courses offered for high school and full college credit, in addition to what is regarded as a traditional secondary curriculum.

The school district offers a wide variety of extra-curricular options including drama, speech, music, athletics, and many other individual and group activities.

Enrollments

The district’s K-12 enrollment is approximately 1925 students and there are four separate school buildings:

  • New Heights Elementary (grades K-2)

  • South Point Elementary (grades 3-5)

  • Central Middle School (grades 6-8)

  • Senior High (grades 9-12)

We have a thriving preschool program and an Adult Community Education program!
