Jan Jelliff
Jan graduated from Bowden, ND High School in 1960. While in school, she participated in band, chorus, yearbook, the school newspaper, many class plays and musical small groups, She was also class Valedictorian. She attended the University of North Dakota where she earned a BA Degree in English and French in 1964. She then earned a MA Degree in English in 1979. While at UND she was active in the Gamma Phi Beta sorority and the Literacy magazine. After teaching one year in St. Louis Park, MN she began a long teaching career at East Grand Forks Senior HIgh in 1965 that lasted until her retirement in 2000. She taught English 10, 11, 12 AP English 12, Advanced Writing and various other English electives. She was advisor for the Green Crest student newspaper for many years. She was also very active in the East Grand Forks Education Association where she served on many committees and held various leadership positions including two years as president.
Dr. Mark G. Stenberg
Dr. Stenberg graduated from East Grand Forks Central High School in 1966. While in school he participated in band, chorus, boys flee club, trumpet quartets and trios, boys vocal quartet, and one act play. He was the student director of the school play “Our Miss Brooks” and a member of the annual production team. His vast musical talents earned him regional awards in trumpet and voice competitions, and he was named All State Band in 1965 and All State Chorus the same year. He was a member of the National Honor Society and a National Science Foundation Scholar in 1965. He was also class Valedictorian. He attended St. Olaf College & earned a BA Degree in Chemistry in 1970. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics and was the recipient of “Advanced Achievement in Internal Medicine” designation from the American Board of Internal Medicine. He served on the Board of Governors for 9 Years and rose to level of Vice President of Olmstad Medical Center in Rochester, MN. He is a member of the American College of Physicians. He started the “Green Party” in Rochester in 1988 and raises Scottish Highland Cattle. In 1969 he was taught Austrian yodeling by the legendary Maria Von Trapp.
Henry G. Tweten

A 1941 graduate from East Grand Forks Central High School. He attended school in East Grand Forks from his very first day of school until he graduated. While in high school, he played football, where he was named to the All City Team, and was the Senior Class President. After graduation he joined the United States Army and he served in General George Patton’s 3rd Army as an infantry platoon leader during World War II. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, a Purple Heart, and a Silver Star for gallantry in action. Upon his return home, he attended the University of North Dakota where he earned a Bachelor or Law Degree. He began a long and distinguished career as a civic and political leader and a highly successful advocate for community service. In 1952 he was the chairman of an “Ad hoc” committee that succeeded in the completion of a master plan for the location of all public schools in the city. He helped with the development of The Point on the cities south end, and he was part of the committee that brought the Tech School to East Grand Forks. He served on the City Council from 1962-68 and was council president the last 4 years. During his tenure, there were many improvements made to the city. He was a member of the State Board of Education for over 7 years and he was a leader in the Democratic Party at both the local and state levels.
David Vonesh
David graduated from East Grand Forks Senior High School in 1986. He participated in football, basketball, track and baseball. During his high school career, he was named All City in football, All City in basketball three times, was the Exponents Winter Athlete of the year two years in a row, and was named All State in basketball his senior year. He attended the University of North Dakota where he had an outstanding career in basketball. During his career he was an All Conference selection three times, was named All Region Three Times and was a two time All America Selection. He still holds the all time rebounding record at UND. He hold degrees from UND, Mayville State University and St. Thomas University. He has been a teacher and a coach for the past 8 years and was the North Dakota Class B boys basketball Coach of the Year in 2001 while at Central Valley High School.
