Kermit Christianson

Kermit graduated from East Grand Forks Central High School in 1950. While in high school he participated in Football, Track, Tumbling, the Senior Class Play and Hi-Y. He was known as the “East Side Express” while playing football for Central High and was voted All-City, All-Conference, and was the first East Grand Forks football player to be named All-State. He attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN.

Donald Danielson

Donald graduated from East Grand Forks Central High School in 1948. While in high school, he was involved in Choir, Band, Vocal Ensembles, Soloist and Track. He received Top ratings at State Music Contests as vocal soloist and ensembles. Upon graduation, he attended St. Olaf and received his BS from the MacPhail College of Music in 1952. He served in the United States Navy from 1952-1956. He received his MM from MacPhail in 1958 and graduated with honors. He taught vocal music for 37 years, 35 in EGF. He is a Board member of both the MN Music Education Association and the American Choral Directors Association. He is a member of the MN State Board of Education Task Force. He is an adjudicator and guest conductor of High School Music contests in MN, ND and SD. He was named Outstanding Secondary Educator of America and Who’s Who among American teachers. He was named Minnesota Choral Director of the Year in 1992 and received the Thursday Music Club Gold Note Award in 1999.

Merlin P. Elie

Merlin graduated from Starbuck High School in Starbuck, MN in 1933. While in school, he participated in “All Sports”, and earned 4 Letters in Football. Upon graduation, he attended Luther College in Decorah, IA. He received a BS degree in both Physical Education and History, and he received a MA from the University of North Dakota. While in college, he participated in football, boxing, and in baseball. As a freshman in football, he started and played every minute of every game on both offense and defense. He started all 4 years at Luther College. He taught Physical Education for 34 years, and was a Drivers Training Instructor for 26 years at both Goodrich and East Grand Forks. He was an assistant Football coach, and an assistant Basketball coach with “Snooks” Sullivan and was a part of many championship teams over his tenure. He was inducted into the Luther College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1989.

Fritz O. Falgren

Fritz graduated from East Grand Forks Central High School in 1931. Played football where he was named captain hi senior year. Upon graduation he attended the University of North Dakota. While at UND, he was named North Central Conference in 1934 & 1935. After graduation, he played a season of Professional Football in the CFL for the Saskatchewan Roughriders where he was named to the All Western Canadian Team. He was inducted into the University of North Dakota Hall of Fame in 1984, and named to the UND Team of the Century as a receiver/tight end in 1994.

Alma L. Gustafson

Alma graduated from High School Department, State School of Science, Wahpeton, ND in 1928. She attended Mayville State College in 1929, received a BS from Moorhead State College in 1945 and a MA from the University of North Dakota in 1955. She taught in School District 595 for 62 years. She was a classroom teacher, worked in the Remedial Reading program, Kindergarten screening, and as a Reading Consultant in the Title Programs for students with special needs in elementary schools. She represented elementary teachers of Polk County at the Minnesota State Fair in 1960. She received the Delta Gamma Societies Woman of Achievement Award.

Jon Haaven

Jon graduated from East Grand Central High School in 1951. While in school, he was involved in Basketball, Yearbook, and the Senior Class Play. In his senior year he was the first player from East Grand Forks to be named All-State om basketball. Upon graduation he attended the University of North Dakota where he played basketball. While at UND he was named MVP of the North Central Conference and was twice named to the Little All America basketball team. He was inducted to the University of North Dakota Athletic Hall of Fame in 1977. In 1968 he was elected to the Minnesota State House of Representatives, and re-elected in 1970. He was the Republican endorsement candidate for U.S. Congress in 1972. He was appointed by Governor Arne Calrson to the Minnesota Board of Judicial Standards in 1992, where he served 7 years. He is the past President of both the Alexandria Developers Association and the Alexandria Golf Club, and a past Director of the Minnesota Zoo Board.

Kurt L. Knoff

Kurt graduated from East Grand Forks Senior High School in 1972. While in school he participated in Choir, Band, Student Council, Basketball, Football, Track and the American Legion Baseball Team. He was a member of the National Honor Society, was elected to Boys State, and was an Honors Student. He earned 10 Varsity Letters, was ALL State in both Basketball & Football and received the Minnesota High School Athlete of the Year Award in 1972. He was recruited by over 80 major Universities in various sports. He attended Kansas University and earned a BA in Business Administration in 1976 and an MBA in 1979. At Kansas he played Basketball, Baseball and Football. He was voted All Big 8 in both Baseball and Football, and he was on various All-American Football Teams as a senior. He was selected as Football Scholar Athlete in 1974 & 1975, and received the Ray Evans Scholar Award as the Top Scholar Athlete at Kansas in 1974. He was elected to the Highest Honorary Men’s Organization on the campus of Kansas University. He was drafted in the 2nd round of the NFL draft by the Denver Broncos, he also played for the Houston Oilers and finished his career with the Minnesota Vikings. He is the president of the Minnesota chapter of the NFL Alumni, and is a board member for the Minnesota chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Florence Soule

Florence graduated from East Grand Central High School in 1928. While in school, she was involved in Speech, Glee Club, and the Senior Class Play. She was the class Valedictorian and received the Hallen-Lystad Scholarship and the R.L. Douglas Scholarship. Upon graduation, she started working for school district 595 where she worked for 47 ½ years. She worked for three different Superintendents as an administrative secretary and as the district Business Manager.

Harold 'Snooks' Sullivan

Harold graduated from East Grand Central High School in 1932. While in school, he was involved in Football, Basketball, and played for the initial EGF American Legion Baseball team in 1931. He received four letter awards each in Football & Basketball, and he received the award for the Senior Athlete with the highest Scholastic average. Upon graduation he attended the University of North Dakota where he earned a BS in Education in 1937 and a MA in Education in 1951. He was a four time letterman in Football at UND and received the Blue Key Award for graduating athlete with the Highest Scholastic average. He taught and coached in Park River, ND for 8 years, and came to teach and coach at East Grand Forks Central High School for the next 32 years. He coached his Basketball, Track, and Football teams to many championships and many of his players received individual awards as well. He was also the Athletic Director from 1945 to 1968. He was inducted into the Minnesota Football Hall of Fame in 1971, and he received the Minneapolis Star & Tribune 25 year Award for Outstanding Service to High School Athletics in 1970. He was awarded the UND Diamond Pin for 50 years as an active UND Football Alumni Letterman and contributor in 1987.
