Minnesota Student Data Privacy Law

The Minnesota Student Data Privacy Act (MSDPA) was passed in 2022 to protect student privacy in public schools. The law limits how schools and technology providers can use student data and monitor students.

The MSDPA gives students and parents more protection from unwanted surveillance and data usage. It also clarifies who owns student data and what to do if there is a security breach.

One of the key provisions is that schools must inform parents about contracts with technology providers and give them the chance to review them.
