Gary Berg

Gary graduated from Bottineau High School in 1959. While in school, he participated in football, basketball, track and Jr. Legion baseball. His high school athletic career was extremely successful including a football conference championship in 1958 and State Championships in both Class B basketball in 1959 and in Class B State Jr. Legion baseball the same year. He was named MVP in both football and basketball his Sr. year and was named the schools Outstanding Athlete. He attended Concordia College where he earned an MS degree in P.E. and Math. While at Concordia, he participated in football for 4 years, where he earned All Conference honors his Sr. year, basketball for 2 years, and one season each in track and baseball. He also holds a MS degree from Washington State. After spending 5 years teaching and coaching in both New England and Carrington, ND, he began a long career at ISD 595 that included teaching, coaching and being the district’s Athletic Director. He spent 16 years teaching math at Central Jr. High, 12 years teaching math at Sr. High and was AD for 7 years. His long and distinguished coaching career included being an assistant coach in basketball and football for 6 years, and as an assistant track coach for 2. He then was Head football coach for 17 years where he led the Green Wave to the State Tournament twice. They finished 2nd in 1982 and were semifinalists in 1985. He was also the Head track coach for 25 years. He received the UND Award of Merit for contributions made to High School Football in 2002 and was selected as the Section 8A Athletic Director of the Year in 2000.

Darrell Fore

Darrell graduated from East Grand Forks Senior High School in 1968. While in school, he participated in football, basketball, track, chorus, and Glee Club. He was one of the finest athletes to ever represent the Green Wave. His many accomplishments included earning 8 varsity letters in 3 different sports. He played on the basketball team that went to state in 1968, he played on the football team that won the city championship in 1966, he was a member of the track team that won back-to-back region championships in 1966/67. As a track athlete, he qualified for the State Track Meet 3 years in a row, and was the first athlete ever in the history of the school to advance to the finals in any event. He was part of at least 8 school or region records and still holds the school record in the 400 meter dash at 50.6. He attended Mayville State College for two years excelling in track. He was then drafted into the military and served his country in the U.S. Army from 1970-1972. After coming home, he worked for Dakota Film and Express from 1973-78. He then took the meter reader position for the City of East Grand Forks from 1978-2004, a job he loved to do. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, the East Grand Forks American Legion Post #157, Teamsters Unit 116 and the EGF Blue Line Club.

Kerry L. Knoff

Kerry is a 1968 graduate of East Grand Forks Senior High School. He was extremely active while in school in both the arts and athletics. He played football, basketball, tennis, track, and American Legion baseball, and was also involved in band, chorus, boys' octet, Student Council, stage band, and Luther League. He was a member of the National Honor Society and was also a church youth fellowship officer. His many honors included being a Fellowship Conference all-city first team member of the 1968 basketball team, and a Fellowship Conference all-city first team member of the 1968 football team. He was a member of the Legion Baseball team. He was named to the All-State Band and was named the Yearbook Business Manager. He was named Senior High Honor Athlete of the Year and earned the prestigious Gold Character "E" award. After high school, he attended Concordia College, where he played baseball and earned 2 varsity letters. He also participated in Physical Education. He received two-year letter awards in football and was named 2 or 3 years All Region. He co-captained 3 times in football and was named All Conference 2 years. He also lettered in track and baseball. He was named Outstanding Athlete at Concordia College. He was a member of the Alpha Epsilon Sigma Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Business Administration and Economics Club.

Other activities he was involved with were Chapel Choir, the Alpha Epsilon Sigma Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a residence hall supervisor, and the intramural sports. He field house manager. A resident of East Grand Forks, he has worked in the banking industry since 1972. He received the National Association of the State of Minnesota in 1989. His Community Outstanding Achievement Award for years of community service and church work. His church and civic involvement include: board member, GGF Military Affairs Committee, Choir, EGF Chamber of Commerce board member, Fund Raising chairman for the Community Education basketball recoup, Fund Raising chairman for the Community Performing Arts Center, Dakota Gold Gymnastics Club board member, Cub Scout den leader, Crime Stoppers board member, and a EGF Economic Development Housing Authority board member.

Sandy Gravseth-Nielsen

Sandy graduated from East Grand Forks Senior High School in 1967. While in school, she participated in choir, glee club, sextet, soloist, accompanist, band, dance band, clarinet quartet, and soloist. She was a cheerleader, a member of the yearbook staff, GAA, National Honor Society, and was the Student Council Treasurer. She was also selected as Homecoming Queen and was named to the Minnesota All-State Choir and was given the John Philip Sousa Award.

She attended Concordia College, where she earned a degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Music. At Concordia, she was a member of Kappa Phi, participated in Chapel Choir, Concert Band, and traveled for two years with the Earthrise Singers.

She began her teaching career in St. Ansgar, Iowa, where she taught for two years. She was then hired by the Brainerd school district, where she spent the next 33 years teaching elementary education. She retired this spring but will continue to be an instructional mentor and peer coach.

Promoting and participating in the arts have been lifelong commitments. Singing in and leading musical groups in church, playing in community bands, and helping to originate The Crossing Arts Alliance are all activities that have enriched her life.

Lynn R. Stauss

Lynn graduated from East Grand Forks Central High School in 1963. In school, he was involved in football, hockey, and chorus. During his entire academic career, kindergarten through graduation, he never missed a day of school. He had perfect attendance. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of North Dakota before serving our country in the U.S. Army in 1969-70. While in Vietnam, he was awarded a Bronze Star. He came home and began teaching in 1972 and taught 4th grade at Crestwood Elementary for 25 years. He has a long and distinguished career as a civic and political leader and is a tremendous advocate for community service.

He coached the Pee Wee and Midget hockey teams for 19 years, including stints with the EGF Blue Line Club’s Midget and Bantam teams. He served as President of the EGF Blue Line Club five times and was Chairman of the building committee for the Civic Center. He helped bring the USA National Bantam Tournament to East Grand Forks in 1986. He was first elected to the local and was elected Mayor in 1996, where he still serves in that capacity today. During his tenure as Mayor, the flood of 1997 was the defining moment, and he was instrumental in leading the rebuilding of our city. He worked closely with state and federal agencies in Washington, D.C., and St. Paul to make sure EGF would get the levee system we have today and money for the city's flood recovery process. His efforts on behalf of the city were recognized by state and federal processes. He has been a key leader in economic development in our town. He assisted in getting 22 new businesses, lots of new downtown recovery projects, the Boardwalk River as a major attraction, new retail parks, and promoted in bringing new businesses to town, with Cabela’s and the Pracs Institute being major additions.
